Ohio State University has been one of the best programs in college football since the game began.
The Buckeyes have been as successful as any program, both historically and recently. Ohio State is in the conversation every year for the national championship and the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes haven’t slowed down at all since the NIL era began. Instead, they have continued to assemble a roster that includes some of the best talent in the country.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule knows the Huskers face an incredible challenge when they take on the Buckeyes on Saturday. He spoke Monday about Ohio State’s talent and the way head coach Ryan Day has built the program.
Rhule doesn’t believe the Buckeyes are simply acquiring players, but instead credits Ohio State’s winning tradition with contributing to the success of building a roster.
“First of all, I want to give credit to Ryan Day. They’re at Ohio State because Ohio State wins and the players want to go to the winners,” Rhule said. Everyone has elements of the NIL, but Ryan won, Urban (Meyer) won, Jim Tressel won, and Ohio State won a lot. Kids want to join one of the best programs in the country, one of the best receiving corps in years. All of the first-round quarterbacks are great. ”
Rhule believes Ohio State’s winning tradition and ability to send players to the NFL are more important than how much NIL money is spent. He talks about former OSU coaches Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel and how they were able to achieve success before schools were allowed to compensate players based on name, image and likeness. I talked about Tanaka.
He believes Ohio State’s roster isn’t all about how much money is spent. Instead, it’s important that the player wants to play for a great program. His goal is to get Nebraska to the same level.
“No one knows the impact of the NIL, but to me, the Ohio State roster is not about the NIL, it’s about players who want to play somewhere that competes for championships,” Rhule said. “For us to get to that point, we have to win enough to justify players taking a chance on us until we get to the top of the mountain. want to get to the top. You can’t have too many 56-s. “We have to play at a high level for seven games, but we will get there. ”
