GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – A local pizza shop in Boiling Springs held a fundraiser for families who lost loved ones in Hurricane Helen.
On the morning of September 27th, Hurricane Helen hit the Upstate. Ronnie Fletcher was on his way home from work when he received a call from his daughter, Annamaria Fletcher.
“She said, ‘The weather is too bad, please stay there,'” Ronnie said. “I told her I was about two miles away and she said, ‘Okay, take care, I love you,’ and I told her I love you too. I did.”
Annamaria’s sister, Autumn Fletcher, was also at home when she heard the tree fall. Autumn said it sounded like an explosion had occurred.
“I walked into the room and she was there, still screaming. It was the worst,” Ronnie said.
The last words Ronnie said to his daughter were “I love you.”
Annamaria was an English teacher at Boiling Springs High School who left a lasting impact on the Boiling Springs community.
“She was just such a wonderful person. I mean, she had the biggest, brightest smile. When she walked into a room, the whole room lit up because everyone always looked at her so I was looking forward to it,” Autumn said.
Marco’s Pizza on Boiling Springs Road is hosting a fundraiser for the Fletcher family this week until Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 p.m.
William Kelly, general manager of Marco’s Pizza, has never met Anna-Maria, but he believes she has always given back to the community.
“I love Boiling Springs and I love the people. I live here. So if I can help people in Boiling Springs, it always helps me and my family. ” Kelly said.
A portion of in-person and online orders placed at Marco’s will be sent to families. To donate, visit GoFundMe.
