Times editorial missed return on investment
An October 25, 2024 Chattanooga Times editorial touted Tim Walz’s $2.3 billion in education spending as a sign of educational success.
Let’s take a quick look at what happened to education during Walz’s tenure. Yes, math and reading scores for both 8th and 4th graders are down, but per-student spending is up by almost $3,000 per student. Fortunately, high school students are taught to “develop an analysis of racial capitalism” and to “think of themselves as members of a racialized class based on dominant European standards of beauty.” That’s because it has been.
$2.3 billion can buy a lot of enlightenment, but it doesn’t seem to buy much actual education.

Lennon is the better choice in District 27.
On November 5th, voters in the 27th Congressional District will elect Tennessee’s new representative to the House of Representatives. Kathy Lennon has demonstrated the leadership skills voters desire, making her the clear choice. She will ensure quality education for all students in all regions, invest in Tennesseans for Tennessee, provide accessible and affordable health care for all, respect women, and We will represent our constituents by making our communities safer.
Opponent Michele Renaud’s website shows her profile trying to exaggerate issues such as education issues, gun control and federal funding. It is unfortunate that voters in District 27 were not given the opportunity to hear and study both candidates. Michelle has not accepted multiple invitations to share her platform in person or on-air. Kathy was ready to discuss her on six different occasions. However, Michele refused to appear.
In this election, voters are expected to choose a better person than the political candidates. Kathy Lennon brings to this office a strong spirit of respect and solidarity with the residents of the 27th District.

Select character, select McClendon
I know Esther Helton Haynes, but the days of her “representing” us in the General Assembly should be over. She has proven more interested in serving herself than serving the people of Tennessee.
Instead of funding her friends’ private schools, she has supported extreme laws that could gut public schools. At a time when the mothers of the Covenant school shooting victims were pleading for more to be done to combat the gun violence epidemic in the state, she made it easier for guns to reach classrooms and caused stress. and chose to arm underpaid teachers.
As a voter in District 30, I want someone with solid integrity to represent Nashville. I am thrilled to support Heather McClendon as Esther Haynes’ successor. She is smart, compassionate, and passionate about public schools, quality health care, and lowering housing costs.
On November 5th, I choose character over a political career. I am choosing Heather McClendon for the District 30 State House seat. Early voting ends October 31st.
