HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – This week’s HPD Sergeant Crime Roundup features three recent crimes. Chris Kim.
case 1
Police are searching for a suspect in the assault of an employee at the Ewa Beach Safeway on Kiaunui Drive. Video of the incident shows a female suspect and two men enter the store and attack an employee just before 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 15.
They fled in an unknown direction.
case 2
A robbery was reported at St. Teresa’s Church off North School Street. According to police, at around 10:20 p.m. on September 8, a male suspect took items from the premises and fled on a bicycle.
case 3
The third incident was an elaborate scam in which a pop-up appeared on an elderly victim’s computer on August 29th. This appeared to be from Microsoft claiming that the computer was infected with malware. Police said the victim called the number and was told by a woman to take cash and put it in a cardboard box.
The woman then claimed that the courier would take the money and provide her with the passcode. Later that day, the female suspect arrived on foot at the victim’s home on Kakiwa Place, gave her a passcode and received a box containing cash.
A similar incident occurred the next day, when a male suspect arrived and took the cash. Both suspects were seen on nearby surveillance video.
CrimeStoppers says older adults are prime targets for this type of scam because such warnings are often difficult to decipher on digital platforms.
“Please contact your kupuna and alert them that this is happening,” Kim said.
