A Habersham County man remains in jail after being arrested on suspicion of robbery on New Liberty Road earlier this week. Dusty Everett Banfield, 34, was arrested after investigators observed suspicious activity near the crime scene, according to a Habersham County Sheriff’s Office news release.
According to the sheriff’s office, on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at approximately 10 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a residence north of New Liberty Road. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of forced entry and confirmed a robbery had occurred, but the suspects left the property.
Shortly afterward, Habersham County deputies saw a gold Ford Ranger parked suspiciously at the north end of New Liberty Road and a white man standing outside. When officers attempted to make contact with the man, he re-entered his vehicle and fled the scene, according to a news release.
Officers pursued the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. When officers approached the driver, they observed items in the bed of the truck, which they said were related to the robbery. They also identified the driver as Banfield.
Investigators arrested Mr. Banfield on a warrant and determined that probable cause existed linking him to the robbery. They say they recovered all stolen property from his vehicle.
Banfield was booked into the Habersham County Jail on charges of violation of probation and first-degree theft. His bond was set at $3,400.
