VILLAGE OF HOT SPRINGS — State Auditor Dennis Milligan will open a mobile office in the Village of Hot Springs on Oct. 17, and about 40 Garland County residents will receive $3,600 through the Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt, according to a news release. It is said that more unclaimed property was discovered.
“I’m so happy to be able to tell Arkansans that their checks are in the mail,” Milligan said in the release.
The event was held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ponce de Leon Center, 1101 DeSoto Blvd.
Unclaimed property includes any type of financial account, such as abandoned checking or savings accounts, unreturned utility deposits, overpayments, life insurance proceeds, stocks or mutual fund shares, etc. . This includes any tangible items left in safe deposit boxes, the release said.
“If the owner abandons the account, such as by moving or dying, and the original company cannot find the owner, the money or property in the abandoned account is considered ‘unclaimed’ and my We will seek to return these unclaimed funds to their rightful owners in accordance with state law,” Milligan said in the release.
“Since taking office in January 2023, we have returned more than $57 million to the public through the Arkansas Treasure Hunt,” he said.
