Special Olympics Upshur County received a $3,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Endowment Fund to support the annual Special Olympics Bowling Program.
Alisa Lively, Special Olympics Upshur County program director, said the funds will cover 10 weeks of bowling practice and travel expenses for 30 athletes to the state championships in Charleston, West Virginia, in December. , said that the money would be used for registration fees.
“This generous grant will allow Upshur County athletes to practice and compete at the Special Olympics West Virginia State Championships in Charleston on December 7th and 8th. The games are just part of the experience: players can travel, stay in hotels, and participate in victory dances and dinners, all of which are attended by local residents with mental and physical disabilities. “It’s been a way to provide mainstream activity to people,” Lively said.
