SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – On Tuesday night, the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors heard a new proposal from Sheriff Chad Sheehan regarding new retirement benefits for Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office employees.
Sheriff Sheehan proposes that deputies and wage system employees, of which approximately 10 currently work for the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, receive the same benefits upon retirement that county union employees receive in the form of paid sick leave. did.
Under the proposal, employees who log 500 hours of sick leave would be paid 28% of their accumulated sick leave (up to $5,000) upon termination. The number of years of service required to receive benefits will also be reduced from 20 to 15 years.
“What I would like to see is a benefit for administrators and organizational leaders to receive at least the same level of development that union employees receive,” Sheriff Sheehan said. “There’s a lot of responsibility placed on the people who serve in our administration, and I just want to be able to reward them in some way.”
The board decided to defer a decision on the proposal to a later meeting, and it is expected to be reintroduced in the coming weeks.
