MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A mother and daughter duo from right here in our community have been advocating for breast cancer awareness and raising money for research for years.
Alison and Nora Abbas have been participating in the Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge since 2018. This national initiative encourages people to set up these lemonade stands to raise money for breast cancer research.
On Saturday, they set up a stand on Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach, selling pink lemonade and other small goods.
Our NewsChannel 7’s Jessica Foster and Donna Bell went out to meet these breast cancer survivors themselves and show their support.
Nora said she started doing stand-up activities with her friends when she was a child, and now that she’s 15 years old, she still wants to continue supporting women around the world.
“I started when I was about 7 years old with my friend Bryn in Philadelphia,” she said. “And we’ve continued to do that, and when we moved here, we wanted to continue to do that. My great-grandmother had breast cancer, and I struggle with breast cancer every day. I just want to bring awareness to all the women out there.”
Nora said she has raised thousands of dollars by selling pink lemonade.
