Los Alamos, New Mexico — UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will plan, construct, renovate and equip campus facilities and infrastructure if New Mexico General Obligation Bond 3 is passed during the November 5 general election. will receive $1 million for.
“Renovations to our campus’ aging infrastructure are desperately needed to meet current ADA standards and increase the energy efficiency of our facilities,” said UNM-LA President Mike Holtzclaw.
The recently completed renovation of Building 6 cost more than three times the original estimate due to supply chain issues. Funds earmarked for updates to other buildings were used to pay for the increases, leaving those buildings in need of further improvements. Funds from Bond 3 will be returned to those buildings.
Examples of specific projects include new paint, lighting, carpeting, and modernization of the bathrooms in the basement of Building 7.
General obligation bonds are the only source of funding available to many educational institutions to renovate buildings, secure facilities, upgrade technology and provide the quality education that advances New Mexico’s economy.
Bond 3 will distribute approximately $230 million to public universities, colleges and trade schools, including the UNM-LA campus.
