Panchkula: Apart from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress candidates, barring one independent candidate, all the others lost their deposits as they failed to secure the required number of votes in the Legislative Assembly elections for Panchkula and Kalka constituencies. .
According to the Election Commission, if a candidate fails to secure one-sixth of the total number of valid votes in the constituency, the amount deposited by the candidate will be seized.
Twelve of the 17 candidates lost their deposits. Seven of them received fewer votes than those who voted in the “None of the Above” (NOTA) category.
A total of 1.4 million votes were cast in Panchkula. Of this, Congress’ Chander Mohan got 67,397 tickets and BJP’s Jan Chand Gupta got 65,400 tickets. AAP’s Prem Garg got only 3,332 votes, giving him only 2.37 per cent vote share. However, this was a slight improvement from the last state assembly elections where AAP’s Yogeshwar Sharma secured 959 votes, giving him a vote share of 0.8%.
Dr Kshitij Choudhary of INLD got 1,375 votes and Sushil Garg of JJP got 1,153 votes. The remaining candidates received fewer votes than NOTA (987 votes). Sharma MP (Independent) 305 votes, Natasha Sood (Independent) 235 votes, Saroj Bala (Independent) 150 votes, Recall Rights Party’s Kishan Singh Negi 110 votes, Bharat Bhusan Gurjar 58 votes. got the vote.
