FEMA has already approved disaster assistance to more than 94,000 households. FEMA provides funding directly to disaster survivors to help purchase temporary housing, repair homes, replace personal property, pay for lodging, and other needs not covered by assistance. FEMA is providing temporary hotel stays to more than 2,800 families. This means more than 6,000 survivors are temporarily staying in hotels rather than shelters. Under this Transitional Shelter Assistance Program, FEMA makes payments directly to eligible survivors’ hotels. FEMA has provided more than $133 million directly to survivors addressing critical needs, housing assistance, and other needs. More funding may be available if survivors communicate with FEMA about their needs, including providing contractor estimates for reconstruction. FEMA is providing temporary hotel stays to more than 2,800 families. This means more than 6,000 survivors are temporarily staying in hotels rather than shelters. Under this Transitional Shelter Assistance Program, FEMA will directly pay eligible survivors’ hotel costs.
