AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Construction projects in the area have been a headache for many travelers, but these projects have increased the amount of jobs available to local workers.
Local contractor Fuller & Sons Construction has tripled its workforce over the past five years.
Josh Fuller, president of Fuller & Sons Construction, said, “Our workforce is growing due to the increased volume of work we have and the volume we are taking on. Therefore, we are hiring more people. It’s a good opportunity.” “That money goes back into the economy.”
Fuller & Sons Construction has been working on projects with TxDOT for many years and is currently working on up to nine contracts.
“If we’re able to hire local contractors or they get hired, that’s just an added bonus to help contractors participate in this,” TxDOT’s Amarillo District Public Information Officer Jason Brich said. he said. There are many projects underway throughout the district, many of which are working with local contractors to help complete the projects. ”
Officials say when out-of-state contractors come in, the money that comes in disappears quickly because they are hiring people from out of state.
“We want the money to stay here because it will just create more jobs in other industries because there will be more people spending money in those industries. It’s circular thinking,” Fuller said.
By keeping local people employed, money stays local and boosts the economy.
