Approximately $26 million in Douglas County’s investment account will be used to make sure the county has access to funding for construction of Mueller Lane Parkway, according to Amy Burgans, secretary-treasurer who manages the account. It is said to have been moved to the moon.
“We had an investment that matured, and at that time, instead of reinvesting it, we moved it into the municipal investment pool and moved it to another item on Mueller Parkway,” she said.
Burgans said the money is still collecting interest and is still in the county’s account.
The pool is part of a statewide investment account that allows local governments to combine funds to scale up co-investments and generate greater returns.
“Douglass has less money in its account than other counties because it’s a larger investment and we don’t have to tap into a pool to make large investments,” Bergans said.
