GLENDIVE, Mont. (KUMV) – Before Greg Gianforte was elected in 2020, a Democratic governor ruled Montana for 16 years. Gianforte is seeking another four-year term from Republicans, but Democrats want change.
Ryan Busse is running alongside Lieutenant Governor Rafe Graybill. Speaking at Glendive this week, Graybill accused Gianforte of raising property taxes and creating hardship for low-income families.
“Greg Gianforte raised property taxes for Montana homeowners by 111 percent. The best advertisement of the Busse and Graybill campaign to date is that the government is sending people tax bills. That’s what we do,” Graybill said.
Gianforte’s camp denies the allegations and accuses him of projection.
“Less than two weeks after Election Day, Ryan Busse and Rafe Graybill, in desperation, lied yet again, saying they would cut taxes for wealthy people with out-of-state vacation homes, but raise taxes in Montana.” “We’re trying to distract from the tax system, burden small business owners, farmers and ranchers with $90 million, and eliminate public schools,” a Gianforte spokesperson said.
A New York Times poll this month showed Mr. Gianforte leading Mr. Busse by 22 points. The Cook Political Report lists this race as “Solid Republican.” Either way, Busse and Graybill believe efforts on the ground can turn things around.
“We know we can win this race. We know we have to win this race for the community we love and care about. , we’re counting on you,” Graybill said.
