Monroe Twp. — Monroe Township voters will decide on a £0.15 million property tax renewal to keep the Lucas Monroe Township Memorial Park thriving for locals and visitors alike.
The five-year renewal on the Nov. 5 ballot will help operate, maintain and improve Lucas Monroe Park. Property taxes are scheduled to begin in 2025, with the first deadline in 2026.
The tax would generate about $13,000 a year, Township Trustee Ed Souder said in an email.
Sauder was unsure of the original deadline for the levy, but acknowledged the purpose of the levy was to maintain the town’s only park.
Currently, three township boards oversee the maintenance of the park. This funding will be allocated to essential maintenance work, including grass mowing, pavilion, basketball and tennis courts, restrooms, and parking lot maintenance.
Sauder said any future improvements planned at the park will be made based on recommendations from the park’s board of trustees.
He emphasized the importance of voter support, noting that the levy renewal will allow local residents and visitors to continue using the park and enjoying its beautiful scenery.
