DEWITT, Iowa (KCRG) – An Iowa man is running across America to raise money for veterans. Nels Mattson, a native of Ames, Iowa, started her run in San Francisco, California and plans to finish in New York City.
He hopes to break the world record for walking across the United States from coast to coast, but his main goal is to raise $106 for every mile he runs, for a total of $306,700 for the Wounded Warrior project. there is.
“I am so inspired and grateful to all those who have served and who have given me the right and freedom to do this and to travel across the United States,” Matson said.

It’s all in memory of retired US Navy SEAL Chris Campbell, who died while on duty in Afghanistan in 2011. Matson never met Campbell, but instead met with Campbell’s sister and told her about Campbell’s sacrifice.

“I hope they find out who Chris Campbell is. That’s the goal. I’m kind of an old-school messenger just getting Chris Campbell’s message across,” Matson said. Ta.
That message has now been carried over 2,000 miles.
“Raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project is a way to honor Chris’ legacy and help those who fought,” Matson said.
