A 30-acre property in Buckhead formerly owned by renowned photographer and philanthropist Lucinda Bunnen will be transformed into a new Atlanta city park.
The Conservation Trust (TCF) purchased the land in October for $13.5 million. According to Urbanize Atlanta, the transaction is Atlanta’s highest-value residential land sale in 2024 and TCF’s largest park acquisition in Buckhead in more than 20 years.
The property, which is larger than downtown’s Centennial Olympic Park and Woodruff Park combined, is located at 3910 Randall Mill Road, just east of Interstate 75 and south of Interstate 285.
Bonneau Ansley of Ansley Real Estate Christie’s International, who represented the Bunen family in the sale, told Urbanize Atlanta that the transaction was “historic” and that “properties like this are rare here. “It hasn’t existed in decades, and it’s unlikely to happen in the future.” There is (again) so much land available in this area. ”
According to TCF, an additional $3.4 million in funding will be needed to create a permanent nature reserve. The group plans to work with city officials and other partners to raise funds.
Bunnen, who helped build the High Museum of Art’s photography collection and co-founded what is now the Center for Contemporary Art Atlanta, died in 2022 at the age of 92. Her Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home on a Buckhead property was included in the sale, but it’s unclear what it will be used for.
Bunnen’s own photographs, including famous Atlantans such as Coretta Scott King and Ted Turner, street scenes, and nature, have been collected in numerous books and frequently exhibited over the decades.
