A Lake Mary teacher is in jail after being accused of inappropriate behavior with a student, according to Seminole County Public Schools. The teacher was identified as 55-year-old Richard Colon. Mr. Colon is a social studies teacher and assistant coach at Lake Mary High School. He was released on bail after a court appearance Friday night, where a judge set bail at $80,000. WESH 2’s Gail Pascal Brown said she had nothing to say when she got out of prison. Colon continued walking, looking around as if searching for something or someone. He walked further down the road behind the prison, about half a mile without saying a word. He ended up winning with 17 wins and 92 losses, and disappeared into the darkness. “He has been with the district for 29 years. He is an AP World History teacher and an assistant coach for the girls soccer team,” a Seminole County Public Information Officer said. School, Katherine Cunkovich. The principal received information about the alleged misconduct and Colon was immediately placed on administrative leave. Upon leaving school, Colon was placed on an electronic monitoring device and ordered not to contact the victim or return to Lake Mary High School. Seminole school officials said the incident was reported to the Department of Family and Children Services and the Bureau of Law Enforcement, and Colon was arrested Thursday afternoon. He is currently facing the following charges: According to the arrest report, Colon and the victim “conducted sexual conversations via text messages through multiple applications while (the victim) was at home,” and that “Colon engaged in sexual conversations between himself and (the victim) via text messages. “The arrest report also states that Mr. Colon included “detailed descriptions of sexual acts”…he also posted inappropriate photos of himself to the victim.” Sent. Lake Mary Principal Dr. Mickey Reynolds sent the following message to school officials: It reads in part: “Please know that we take any allegations of misconduct by our staff seriously and address them promptly. We will continue to cooperate fully and provide legal assistance.” The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and any behavior that threatens safety will not be tolerated in Seminole County Public Schools.” Seminole County Public Schools will continue to support law enforcement. that they are investigating. According to the arrest report, Colon and the victim “had sexual conversations via text messages over multiple apps while (the victim) was at home,” and that “Colon engaged in sexual conversations between himself and (the victim) via text message over multiple apps.” clearly explained the sexual activity in which the person was involved.
The arrest report also states that Colon provided “detailed descriptions of sexual acts”…Colon also sent inappropriate photos of himself to the victim.
Lake Mary Principal Dr. Mickey Reynolds sent the following message to the school family:
“Please know that allegations of misconduct by our staff are taken seriously and dealt with promptly. We will continue to fully cooperate and assist law enforcement as they continue to investigate. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and any type of behavior that jeopardizes that safety will not be tolerated in Seminole County Public Schools.”
Seminole County Public Schools said it will continue to assist law enforcement as the investigation progresses.
