Dustin Rhodes is 55 years old, but he’s still passionate and believes in his work.
Rose has been a wrestler since 1988, but recently saw a resurgence in his career. He has won both ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championships in recent months. His future is somewhat uncertain as his contract with AEW is reportedly coming to an end.
Dustin Rhodes commented on his possible retirement in an interview with Texas Monthly.
“I always think I can contribute a little bit more because I still have the passion,” Rose said. “I’m 55 years old now and have great matches with my kids. I honestly don’t think I’ve had a bad experience since I’ve been in AEW. I’m still able to do that in my 50s. It’s shocking to me that I’ve had so many meaningful matches here. Yes, my body is battered and damaged, but I’m always rehabbing it. I’m in the gym every day, no matter what. Masu.”
Dustin Rhodes talks about being a teacher
Rhodes also commented on being a teacher at both AEW and his school, Rhodes Wrestling Academy. In addition to working behind the scenes in the women’s division, he has coached the likes of Ross and Marshall von Erich.
“I realized that I’m a really good teacher, and I’m proud of that,” he said. “I love seeing the younger kids like the women’s department working with me every week. They train with me before we even get to the building. When I see them go out there and do the things I taught them that worked in the game, that’s the biggest reward. Seeing them succeed and get better. It’s really great. It has nothing to do with money. This is my way of giving back to the business.”
