CLEARWATER, Fla. — In the aftermath of Hurricane Helen, the state of Florida is hosting an event where local residents can meet with insurance companies.
What you need to know Insurance Village gives people the opportunity to meet health care providers face-to-face.
Insurance Village is located in Long Center in Clearwater.
It was held on Saturday. Sunday’s event has been cancelled.
The goal is to help people affected by the storm file insurance claims directly through their representatives.
For people like Cindy Simpson who have trouble communicating with their insurance companies, having a place to meet agents face-to-face is important.
“I kept calling every hour on the hour until 10pm on Friday night. No one would call me back.”
All of the furniture and appliances on the grounds of Mr. Simpson’s home were destroyed by the hurricane.
The frustrations she faced led her to Insurance Village at Long Center in Clearwater.
Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, said he wants to help those affected by Helen move forward with their claims.
“It’s a lifetime’s worth of memories left on someone’s curb,” he says. “So it’s a little difficult for some people. Well, we help with insurance claims and we also give hugs. We’re all in this together and we ’s job is to help people through economic recovery after a disaster.”
Organizers said policyholders should bring as much information as possible.
This includes your driver’s license or passport, insurance card, photos and documentation of damage, repair estimates, and other insurance information.
“Consumers should have access to their carriers, and in some cases face-to-face communication is a much more effective way to communicate,” Patronis said.
The event was held on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday’s event has been cancelled.
