D.C. has a rich history not only in culture and politics, but also in helicopters.
The newly renovated condo in Columbia Heights was once the site of the first ever helicopter flight.
The condominium at 774 Girard Street NW was Washington, DC’s first helicopter factory. This is where Emile Berliner developed the gramophone, the record, and the components that made helicopter flight possible.
“It sat abandoned for years and years and years,” said Daniel Heider of Heider Real Estate and TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
The helicopter manufacturing facility has declined since the 1900s, which gave Brook Road Development an opportunity to breathe new life into the space and honor its history, Hyder said.
The renovated condo includes original photos of factory-built and designed helicopters. This space uses the factory’s original red brick.
This condo is over 5,000 square feet and has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one half bathroom.
The condo went on the market Thursday and is listed for $3.25 million.
