The Harvard Undergraduate Association passed five proposals at its general meeting Tuesday night, including funding a Halloween movie night and Harvard-Yale merchandise ahead of the 140th play of The Game. did.
HUA allocated $2,000 to fund a Halloween movie night on the Quad Lawn, co-sponsored by HUA, Cabot House, and the Office of the Dean of Students. Adirika said Cabot House traditionally holds movie nights during Halloween, but this year HUA hopes to expand the event to include students from all residence halls.
HUA will also allocate $1,000 toward the purchase of Harvard merchandise, which will be distributed free to students prior to this year’s Harvard vs. Yale football game on November 23rd. Adirika said HUA held a similar merchandise giveaway during The Game in 2022. The last time it was played was at Harvard Stadium.
“The demand was huge and the students really enjoyed it,” Adirika said.
HUA’s Inclusion and Wellbeing teams each received $1,500 in funding for the Helping Hands Fund, a grant specifically designed for inclusion and wellbeing-related initiatives.
“There were a lot of clubs that took advantage of this fund,” Adirika said. “From an inclusion and equity standpoint, I think it’s important to have an opportunity like this for a student committee that has a particular focus on inclusion and well-being in terms of programming.”
During the conference, HUA’s social life team also received funds to support HUA’s “Crimson Cohesion Fund” and “Fun Fund.”
The Social Life Team received $3,500 in Cohesion Fund funding for student organizations that host events for 200 or more students.
“The overall purpose of this fund, and it has always been, is to give students the opportunity to make meaningful connections, meet new people outside of class, and have a variety of spaces where they can socialize and have fun. to provide,” Tzion said. HUA also allocated $2,000 to the Social Life team’s “Fun Fund.” The fund will allow groups of three to 10 students to participate in subsidized outings worth up to $15 per person.
“This will be on a first-come, first-served basis,” Daniel said.
Adirika and HUA Co-Chair Jonathan Haileselassie ’26 also announced that they have met with Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Hopi E. Hoekstra about finding a successor for Harvard President Rakesh Khurana, who will retire at the end of 2024. . -25th grade.
Adirika said she and Haile Selassie had “great conversations about ways we can work together” with FAS regarding the search for a dean of the university.
“Dean Hoekstra is very interested in understanding the student perspective on this,” Adirika added.
