GREENVILLE, Pitt County — A Pitt County woman is accused of filing false insurance claims for a swimming pool, according to the NCDOI.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced on Friday, Oct. 11, that Kristen Carter, 34, of Greenville, is charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretenses.
Special agents with the North Carolina Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigation Division said Carter submitted fraudulent claims to American Banks Insurance Company in Florida under a false business name in order to receive compensation for pools that did not belong to him. reported.
Officials said her false insurance claim amounted to $5,199.90.
According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred on January 16th of this year.
Mr. Carter was served with a criminal summons on Wednesday, October 9th and is scheduled to appear in Beaufort County District Court on November 7, 2024.
“Insurance fraud is hurting consumers’ wallets,” said Commissioner Causey. “About 20 cents of every insurance dollar goes toward the cost of fraud. I am fighting this problem by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
