Governor Laura Kelly, along with Evergy executives and legislative leaders, announces that Evergy will invest more than $2 billion to build two new natural gas power plants in Kansas that will generate 705 megawatts (MW) of electricity. did. The construction of each factory will create more than 500 jobs. Once operational, it will provide 20 to 40 high-paying skilled jobs with annual salaries in excess of $90,000 and pay more than $500 million in property taxes after a 10-year exemption.
Since 2019, Governor Kelly’s administration has led 1,284 development projects, attracting nearly $20 billion in investment and creating approximately 69,000 jobs. Earlier this year, Governor Kelly signed House Bill 2527, a bipartisan bill to encourage investment in electricity infrastructure. This legislation will help Kansas attract more investment, foster economic growth, and save residents money on energy costs.
