Germany’s Minister for Culture and Media is calling on German developers to submit “great game ideas” and apply for funding through the Press Start: Games Startup Grant fund.
Press launch for both indie developers and newly established studios: Game Startup Grant Fund will support “up to 130 game developers to set up their own studios in Germany” starting this year .
According to Game Developer, a successful bid will secure 2,750 euros (approximately $3,000) per month for 18 months, allowing it to “focus on the establishment phase and drive the development of the game.”
Applicants who need to submit a game concept or early development project will also have access to education and networking programs.
“With this grant, we will support the further development of an innovative and diverse games development environment, thereby strengthening Germany as a gaming destination,” said Minister’s Representative Claudia Roth.
“With this pilot project, the funds allocated by the German Bundestag for the Cultural Games Fund will benefit gaming visionaries across Germany.”
Qualified applicants may apply to the program from now until November 17, 2024.
Earlier this month, Steam announced that it would no longer sell games without age restrictions in Germany.
