Bedridden with polio, Roy Gaudette set up an agency near Grafton Common in 1926 to write car insurance policies for friends and neighbors. The business, spurred by a new Massachusetts law requiring insurance on all cars, was successful enough that Roy’s younger brother, Jerry Gaudette Sr., joined the business and in 1935 moved down the Blackstone River to North Bridge and opened the agency’s second office. It was incorporated 20 years later.
Jerry Gaudette Sr.’s eldest son and namesake, Jerry Jr., joined the agency in 1960 and drove its philosophy and growth for the next 40 years. Jerry Gaudette, Jr. was an influential figure in both the Blackstone Valley and Massachusetts independent insurance agency communities.
Much has changed in the century since Roy Gaudette founded the agency. The group expanded along the Route 9 corridor, opening offices in Southboro, Westboro and Shrewsbury, for example.
