As parts of East Tennessee continue the long road to recovery from Hurricane Helen, Dixon’s organization is helping a lesser-known segment of Helen’s victims: those struggling with addiction and those in recovery. We are focusing our support efforts on people.
Freeman Recovery Center, a comprehensive addiction recovery treatment center, has launched the Hope After Helen – Recovery Relief Fund and plans to donate up to $25,000. Funds raised by the Freeman Recovery Project go directly to providing hope to people in recovery treatment.
“What we realized is that tragedies like Helen’s can be extremely difficult for people in recovery, especially those in recovery. Nanoha is hope,” said April Landry, brand ambassador for Freeman Recovery Center. “That is why we have stepped up to intervene and provide support to our customers and staff affected by this hurricane.”
Landry said the money raised will go toward people in recovery or those who provide services to people in recovery. Examples of facilities that Freeman Recovery considers supporting include treatment centers and sober living homes.
“We want to provide financial assistance to recovery centers and make sure they receive the basic needs that are currently being taken away from them,” Landry said.
Landry said the treatment centers she spoke to in East Tennessee face many unique challenges.
“When people are in crisis, we need mental health first aid. That could include psychological first aid for people who are wondering, ‘What should I do next?’ There is. What’s the first step here?
“Community matters. We’re here to restore hope. That’s part of our mission,” Landry said. To donate to the relief fund, visit www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/ce2f0b72-3f8f-4177-8f2c-14d19405bf9d. For more information about the fund, visit freemanrecoveryproject.org/hurricane-relief/.
