BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The pressure of being a police chief is a feeling many people have never experienced.
Now, WBRC has received a response to Scott Thurmond’s retirement from a woman who retired herself.
Former Secretary Annetta Nunn served from 2003 to 2007.
She said she was not shocked to hear that Chief Thurmond was retiring because she had heard rumors that it might happen soon.
“I wish him nothing but the best,” Nunn told WBRC. “That’s something everyone has to decide for themselves.”
She added that the difficulty of the job depends on the support provided.
“You want to do your best,” she said. “It’s good to have someone to support you emotionally, and it’s good to have financial support from the city to do these things, because when I was active, Because, as I told them, ‘fighting crime costs money.’

This position is subject to high turnover.
Whoever is appointed as the new chief will be Birmingham’s fourth permanent chief in six years.
