New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo (R-Rome) is asking the state Legislature to help pass a bill that would give certain veterans in the state significant tax breaks.
The Senate bill, co-sponsored by Mr. Griffo, would completely eliminate real estate taxes on the primary residence of a veteran with a 100% service-connected disability (where the property is owned by the veteran and his or her spouse). It is subject to exemption.
This tax exemption applies to property taxes imposed by a county, city, town, village, or school district. “We are forever grateful to all those who served our great nation in the military,” said Senator Griffo.
“Disabled veterans are likely to face significant financial and other challenges. They deserve relief. This bill addresses some of the economic pressures they and their families experience. “Thank you is the least we can do.”
The bill was introduced in 2019 and passed several times in the Senate.
As of this report, a companion bill (A.2965-A) is in committee.
