On October 22, 2024, a New York federal court ordered Rudolph Giuliani to give away most of his property, including a co-op apartment in New York, to Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss to satisfy a defamation judgment of more than $146 million. ordered him to be handed over. Mr. Giuliani unsuccessfully tried earlier this year to delay enforcement of the judgment indefinitely by filing for bankruptcy. The bankruptcy proceedings were dismissed on August 2, 2024, as Giuliani’s diplomatic strategy failed.
“The road to justice for Ruby and Shay has been long, but they never wavered,” said Aaron Nathan of Willkie, Farr & Gallagher, one of Freeman and Moss’ attorneys. Ta. “Last December, the jury returned a strong verdict in our favor, and I am proud that today’s verdict makes that verdict a reality.”
It has been nearly four years since Rudy Giuliani orchestrated a campaign of malicious lies about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss for personal, political, and financial gain. The impact was immediate and swift, and devastating for our clients who made the courageous decision to speak truth to power. Mr. Giuliani has spent years trying to avoid all liability for the damage he caused, after a jury in December 2023 awarded Mr. Ruby and Mr. Hsieh more than $146 million. I put it down.
Since the jury’s verdict, Mr. Giuliani has sought to manipulate and abuse the legal system to avoid paying a penny to his clients. His efforts to delay accountability ended today, with a federal judge ordering him to turn over virtually all of his assets, including the New York City co-op, to Ruby and Shea within seven days.
“I am proud that our clients will finally begin receiving some of the compensation they are entitled to for Mr. Giuliani’s actions,” Nathan said in a statement. “This result should send a strong message that those who deliberately choose to spread disinformation will have to pay a price.”
