Ahmed El Sobky, Chairman of the Egyptian Medical Authority and Superintendent of Universal Health Insurance and Life Dignified Projects, will be working with the Swedish Ambassador to Cairo, Håkan Emsgard, and leading Swedish companies in the country. He met with representatives of Egypt and discussed strengthening healthcare investment in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Massoud Biuki, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, and Johan Karlsson, Chief Health Adviser and former head of the Swedish Public Health Agency. A delegation from the Swedish Trade and Investment Council and several experts and investors from Sweden also attended the meeting.
El Sobky explained that the meeting focused on deepening and widening the partnership between Egypt and Sweden, as well as strengthening investment opportunities in healthcare across five key sectors. These areas include infrastructure development, medical device support, remote consulting, implementing innovative technology solutions and artificial intelligence applications to improve patient experience, and promoting health awareness programs and public health initiatives. Included.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation and strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors in achieving comprehensive health coverage. He pointed out that the Egyptian market is currently in a golden period of attracting foreign investments in all sectors, especially in the healthcare sector, which will ensure sustainable development.
He emphasized the importance of analyzing health data and maximizing the benefits of health databases. He pointed out that there are currently 6 million electronic medical files in prefectures in the first stage of the comprehensive medical insurance system.
He said that 20 million e-prescriptions are being issued every month, stressing that the production volume of the second phase is expected to be three times that of the first phase. This phase will target 15 million people in five governorates: Minya, Damietta, Kafr el-Sheikh, North Sinai and Matrouh.
During the conference, successful examples of Sweden’s partnership with health authorities were presented, such as the complete mechanization of surgical departments and cooperation with Getinge in managing patient care processes. Furthermore, the focus is on sustainable green operations of the central sterilization departments of the hospitals under its jurisdiction, along with the use of digital solutions and training development through the establishment of the EHA Getinge Academy for technical training of medical staff.
Discussions also included collaboration with Elekta, a Swedish company specializing in radiotherapy and oncology technologies. This partnership focuses on the latest technology and the latest diagnostics and treatments for cancer patients, as well as early detection of tumors. It also involves training medical staff at the health authority’s hospitals in advanced techniques for diagnosing and treating tumors using the gamma knife and precise tumor removal techniques.
Additionally, the collaboration with AstraZeneca aims to support public health efforts and introduce the concept of green healthcare facilities, making use of medicines and medical supplies with a low carbon footprint.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of Sweden to Cairo Håkan Emsgard asserted that Egypt is an important partner in promoting medical investments and advanced technologies in the region.
Massoud Biukki, regional director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, said major Swedish companies want to deepen collaboration with health authorities to introduce sustainable healthcare solutions and scale up healthcare investments. Expressing enthusiasm, he said that Swedish companies are growing well. A system is in place to support Egypt’s reform efforts.
