KENT COUNTY, MI — A local farm market is offering a taste of fall with a unique restaurant-like menu.
Ed Dunneback & Girls Farm Market, located at 3025 6 Mile Rd NW in Alpine Township, is a fourth-generation farm that has evolved over the years. Sisters Sarah Stoddard and Stephanie Ginsburg have overseen the growth of their 100-year-old family business, managing day-to-day operations alongside their mother, Suanne Shoemaker, one of the Dunbach daughters.
In 2019, the farm expanded to offer a bar counter under the name Pink Barrel Cellars. The farm has craft beer, wine, cider, and soda.
Meal options have also been added to the baked goods counter. The restaurant serves lunch, breakfast and dinner.
The kitchen is the “heart of the barn.”
“As the seasons change, some people come with a checklist: “I picked apples, I bought pumpkins, I ate donuts, let’s go,” Ginsburg said. “We’ve created an experience where families can put down their phones, kick back, relax, and enjoy a day of delicious food and drinks.”
Stoddard added that she and her sisters understand how difficult it can be to eat out as a family, as they each have three children. We create a family-friendly atmosphere that is both fun and parent-friendly.
The farm’s menu changes frequently from May to November, featuring seasonal fruits such as strawberries, cherries, blueberries and apples. Current drink offerings include Honeycrisp Ale, Pumpkin Spice Beer, Apple Pie Seltzer, and Apple Cider Mimosas.
The farm’s most popular year-round menu items include pulled pork dishes such as sandwiches, tacos, and nachos.
Pulled pork tacos sell for two for $9.95 and are stuffed with house-made apple BBQ pork topped with cheddar cheese and fresh apple slaw. Presented in conjunction with Hippie Chippies, a locally owned tortilla chip company.
Pulled Pork Nachos ($13.95) feature house-made apple BBQ pork served on a hippie chippy and topped with cheddar cheese and fresh apple slaw.
Pizza is also a popular menu item along with drinks. The Pickle Pizza is $12.95 for 10 inches and is topped with pickles, homemade white sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
If you’re looking for a post-harvest dessert, try our seasonal shakes. Currently, the farm is serving caramel apple milkshakes.
We offer a variety of classic baked goods and sweet treats like donuts, turnovers, and “Big Ole Cookies.” Donuts are $1.50 each, $6 for six, and $12 for 12. Sales and cookies are $3.
Frozen fruit pies can be purchased for $20 and baked at home.
The farm also hosts corporate events, family meals, rehearsal dinners, and birthday parties.
“Anything but a wedding,” Stoddard said with a laugh.
