Almost 60 years after his directorial debut, Martin Scorsese still has a few films left in his career.
The Oscar-winning director recently dismissed speculation that he intended to retire from his storied behind-the-scenes career, as the award ceremony took place at the National Cinema Museum in Turin, Italy, on Monday.
“I have no intention of retiring,” Scorsese said, according to World of Reel. “A movie about Frank Sinatra will just be postponed, but a movie about Jesus I’m working on. I hope God gives me the strength and money to finish them. ”
Scorsese revealed that he was inspired to make “a movie about Jesus” during a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican last May. He gave an update on the project at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
Scorsese said, “We’re considering that right now.” “I have no idea what kind of movie it’s going to be, but I want to make something unique and different and thought-provoking, and I want it to be interesting. How will I deal with it? I don’t really understand it yet.”
He added, “Maybe when I get some sleep and wake up, I’ll have some new ideas about how to do it. The possibilities of filmmaking, the concept of Yes, the idea of Yes, I think the Lower East Side I think it stemmed from my background growing up in the United States, my interest in Catholicism and the priesthood, and that ultimately led to the film ‘Silence.’
Scorsese, meanwhile, had been planning to direct a biopic of the singer and actor, “Sinatra,” ever since he first acquired the life and music rights from Frank Sinatra Enterprises 15 years ago.
