KCCI 8 News at 5 p.m. Well, it’s about that time. Tomorrow is your last chance of the year to attend the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market. It’s always a great event. After Saturday’s market, the store is scheduled to close until May next year. And many people have to find something new to do on weekend mornings. Tonight, KCCI Beau Bowman is performing on Court Avenue, and it’s said there could be a record crowd this year. That’s right, Jody, we don’t know exactly how many people attended the farmers market because they haven’t tallied the numbers yet. But the Des Moines Partnership is pretty confident that number will grow. On Saturday, the last bell of the year will ring at the Des Moines Farmers Market, marking the start of the morning. But the end of the season. There’s a lot of variety and a lot of really cool things going on. For many downtown residents, it’s the highlight of the weekend. Like Clementine Bennett, who says she misses the winter months. It has grown quite large. It’s much bigger than I expected. It not only makes people social, but also leads them to all sorts of different things. This year, the market has expanded. Now includes Water Street and other vendors. Many of the new vendors, about 50 of them, are new. Elizabeth Wyers of the Des Moines Partnership is the Farmers Market Manager. In her first year at the helm, they have not yet tallied attendance numbers, but believe they are nearing a record. We recorded a really impressive number of pedestrians. I haven’t caught one yet, but it looks like we can really hope for it this year, and I think the weather will have a big impact. The weather continues to be very nice. Next year, the partnership will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a market. According to The Wire, they are already planning something special. There are opportunities for growth everywhere. Vendors want to be there, people want to be there. And when people want to be in a place, it only makes it so much better. If you’re planning on going to the farmers market tomorrow, don’t forget that it’s Halloween themed. The vendors are all dressed up and kids can even go trick-or-treating. It’s live
