The $13.9 million bond would be issued for 20 years and would cost about 80 cents a month for an average home worth about $280,000.
If approved by voters, the funding would include $5.3 million for urban stormwater drainage projects in all four quadrants of the city, $3.6 million for flood mitigation, $3.6 million for stream stabilization, $1 million for water quality, and urban drainage research. divided into $400,000.
The larger project includes stormwater drainage improvements in the areas of 10th Street and Park Avenue, 11th Street and Harrison Avenue, and 63rd Street and Aylesworth Avenue.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities believes this project will reduce localized flooding in these areas and help protect properties from flood damage.
Another project will focus on 48th Street at the Cornhusker Highway underpass, which flooded during severe weather in early July. The stormwater bond will also fund 16 additional projects across the city.
The city has placed 15 stormwater bonds on the ballot since 1977, all of which have been passed by Lincoln voters. According to LTU, eight of the bonds have been paid off, and three of the remaining seven have been refinanced to lower interest rates.
