CHICAGO (WLS) — Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has voiced opposition to the Chicago White Sox’ plan to build a new stadium in the South Loop and the use of tax dollars for the project.
Owner Jerry Reinsdorf is focused on trying to move the team to the South Loop with funding from the state. Mr. Pritzker seemed balked at the idea.

“A $1 billion investment in a private company, which is owned by wealthy people and is so valuable to a private company, that taxpayers naturally think, “There’s no other use for it.” “Isn’t that the capital?” said the governor.
Rumors of a possible sale or relocation of the team have also resurfaced for the Sox.
Southside grandstand fans and owners said Friday that negotiations for a new stadium will only increase frustration.
Grandstand owner Stephanie Ganal said, “Let’s build a team! We don’t need a new stadium. We don’t need more money drained from the city. We need a team.”
The White Sox declined to comment this week on the possibility of a sale or relocation, but there is interest from an ownership group who would like to buy the team and move it to Nashville.
