POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Broward County pawn shop owner was arrested last week on suspicion of handling stolen goods at his store.
Ronald Plavnicki, 58, owner of A-One Pawnshop in Pompano Beach, was arrested Thursday on charges of dealing in stolen property and violating the Florida Pawnbroker Act, according to jail records.
According to the arrest warrant, Pravnitsky purchased numerous stolen items at his store “for well below fair market value,” and some of the items “still had theft-deterrent spider wire attached.” He should have known that the item was stolen because the item was stolen.
Detectives said some of the stolen items included a Goodyear air compressor, a Shark vacuum cleaner, Bose speakers and an infant sleep monitor.
The arrest warrant states that an undercover agent with the Broward Sheriff’s Office conducted multiple transactions with Plavnitsky during the investigation.
On Sept. 27, Pravnitsky told an undercover detective he needed two bathrooms and asked if he could get one if he gave the detective the hardware store model number, according to the warrant.
Authorities said Pravnitsky then gave the undercover agent tips on how to evade the theft, wearing a red shirt to the store and keeping a black shirt in his car to change into after the theft. He is said to have instructed him to do so.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Pravnitsky was told by BSO in June 2022 that he needed to report the pawn transactions to authorities and was given an alternative way to do so, but as of Oct. 23, Mr. Plavnitsky did not report any daily reports to the sheriff’s office. ”
As of Monday morning, Pravnitsky no longer appeared in the prison’s database.
