BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – From Friday through Sunday, Cross Insurance Center in Bangor was transformed into a wonderland for lovers of all things TV, comics, games, movies, and more.
Miki Mays, organizer of Bangor Comic & Toy Con, presented by Vacationland Entertainment, succinctly explains the appeal of the event:
This includes video games, over 100 vendors, celebrity meet-and-greets, familiar faces from popular series, and more.
Brewer estimates Dennis Myers and Matthew Daigle have been consulting for nearly nine years.
“We love supporting local artists and local vendors. It’s so much fun!” Myers explains. “We cosplay and do weird things!”
Many attendees followed suit and cosplayed or dressed up as their favorite characters.
“You can either do it during Halloween, or you can do it normally. If you do it normally, you’ll be judged. But the best time to do Comic-Con or Halloween is because no one can judge you.” Kevin, who was cosplaying as Pyramid Head from the video game “Silent Hill,” says:
The convention not only provides attendees with a space to embrace and connect with niche interests, but also businesses.
“There’s a lot of collectibles and a lot of hobbies that people have. This allows you to create all kinds of groups and share stories, experiences and different things that you want to collect,” said Lewiston/Auburn-based says Paul Powell, co-owner of the business Packs TCG shop.
Cartoonist and author George Deep also commented on the networking opportunities this event creates.
In Deep’s experience, the con artist and state-wide comic scenes continue to improve. “Even here in Maine, it seems like more and more people are doing shows every year, all over Bangor and Portland. The crowds are getting bigger and bigger. This is the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen at a show. is.”
Bangor Comic and Toy Con will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
