Mono County completes purchase of Bridgeport Junction Apartments
Property acquisition part of strategy to address housing crisis for local workers
MONO COUNTY, Calif. (October 17, 2024) – Earlier this week, Mono County completed the purchase of the Bridgeport Junction Apartments, located at 264 Highway 182 in Bridgeport. The property includes four apartments and a management unit that was previously used for short-term rentals. The newly acquired county property will be transitioned into long-term workforce housing in the Bridgeport community.
“The purchase of this property is an important step in addressing the urgent need for workforce housing in Mono County,” said Supervisor John Peters, chairman of the Mono County Board of Supervisors. “Our local workforce is the backbone of our community, and ensuring they have access to affordable and stable housing is essential to the sustainability and growth of our county. By investing in workforce housing, we are investing in Mono County’s future, strengthening our economy, supporting local businesses, and ensuring the people who live and work here can continue to call this place home. ”
Mono County is committed to identifying opportunities to expand the local workforce and supply of affordable housing while developing a holistic long-term housing program. The acquisition of the Bridgeport Junction Apartments property moves the units from the short-term rental market to the long-term rental market, targeting housing workers and their families with jobs in and around Bridgeport.
Upon taking ownership, Mono County Public Works will begin a thorough inspection of each unit and make any necessary improvements and minor cosmetic upgrades. Once improved, two apartments will be available to Mono County employees and three apartments will be available to the public. MonoCounty has published an interest list for Bridgeport Junction Apartments for those interested in applying for a unit. The goal is for each unit to be fully occupied by January 1, 2025.
