TIANJIN – A total of 124 mineral deposits were discovered in China in 2023, according to a report released by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The report, titled “China Mineral Resources 2024,” was released at the 26th China Mining Conference and Exhibition, which is currently being held in Tianjin, northern China.
The report focuses on new developments from 2023 onwards, including, inter alia, geological and mineral exploration and evaluation, exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, and ecological restoration of mines.

Of the 124 newly discovered deposits, 16 are construction limestone deposits and 10 are graphite deposits, making it one of the most abundant deposits. By the end of 2023, a total of 173 types of minerals have been discovered in China.
The report points out that significant progress has been made in oil and gas exploration in new formations and new zones in large oil and gas basins such as Tarim Bay, Junggar Bay, and Bohai Bay.
Regarding non-oil and gas mineral exploration, significant progress has been achieved in coal, copper, gold, lithium and phosphites.
