MOSCOW, October 15 (Sputnik) – Russian state nuclear company Rosatom is negotiating with several African countries for access to lithium and uranium deposits, Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev said on Tuesday.
“Rosatom is paying special attention to cooperation with African countries. Documents on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy have been signed with many countries on the continent, negotiations on access to lithium and uranium deposits are underway, African students are studying at Russian universities according to Rosatom quotas,” Likhachev said. Meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He added that Rosatom is completely independent from imports and external challenges related to technology and equipment have not affected the company’s projects.
“Of course, we are not dependent on imports, so all the challenges associated with import substitution have not caused economic damage to our project,” Likhachev said.
Likhachev also said that Rosatom’s international projects are progressing well and that business with friendly countries will generate up to 80% of Rosatom’s overseas revenue in 2024.
“This year we expect the share of revenue from friendly countries to reach 80%,” the Rosatom chief said.
Rosatom expects international revenue to reach $18 billion by the end of 2024.
