Many followers automatically form bonds, while others are trapped behind conversation checks with the five royal virtues: Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination.
How to increase your follower bond
Unlike Personas, Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio rank up no matter what conversation choices you choose when speaking to them during unique events. Instead, choosing the correct dialogue options will earn you MAG, the currency used to research new archetypes and inherit movements.
However, you may need to complete a side quest to unlock the next bond event conversation for a particular character.
After completing the first major dungeon in Regalis Cathedral, you will be able to listen to your followers whenever you have time. Display the Followers menu and access followers with an exclamation point above their heads to start conversations that increase your bond level.
If you haven’t yet discovered or been to the part of town where a particular character hangs out, you won’t see the Bond rank-up symbol. Therefore, continue to increase your bonds by thoroughly exploring the city.
For example, Hulkenberg is often waiting at the town inn, but if you have never been to the town inn, you won’t see the Bond rank-up symbol next to her in the followers menu.
