Mr Markel has appointed Stacey Hinton (pictured) to head the jewelers block within the senior underwriter and specie team with immediate effect. As Head of Jeweler Block, Mr. Hinton will oversee the growth and profitability of Markel’s international jeweler block portfolio.
Hinton’s responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients, as well as working closely with the broader specie team and other departments to execute the firm’s jeweler block underwriting strategy.
Senior underwriters are also tasked with strengthening underwriting processes to ensure continuous improvement. Hinton will be based in London and will report to Rob Ashby, head of Markel’s specie division.
Hinton brings nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance sector to Markel, including most recently as Head of Specie at Convex Insurance.
Prior to joining Convex, he held various underwriting positions at Fidelis Insurance and Starstone Insurance, including as a specie underwriting writer. Hinton’s career began with Tysors in 2006, and he went on to work at Arch Insurance and Ocaso Insurance.
Mr Ashby said: “Businesses involved in the jewelery trade currently face an evolving range of risks, including an increase in theft and robbery due to difficult economic conditions.
“Now more than ever, these challenges highlight the need for businesses to partner with insurers that understand their industry and operations and can provide tailored, dynamic coverage solutions.”
Furthermore, he added: “Therefore, we are pleased to welcome Stacey to the Markel team. With nearly 20 years of experience, the majority of which was gained in specie underwriting, she adds significant amounts to an already established team. Add experience.
“I am confident that her deep knowledge and industry network will greatly enhance the capabilities of our team, allowing us to better serve our clients and brokers, and further strengthening Jeweler Block Insurance’s leadership position.” ”
