Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from tennis on Thursday, ending a glittering career that included 22 Grand Slam wins. The Spaniard shared the news with his fans on social media and thanked everyone for their support.

Since then, many current and former players have taken to social media to congratulate Nadal on his retirement. A video of Carlos Alcaraz watching Nadal’s presentation with his team members on his cell phone also went viral. After the video, everyone appeared emotional considering Nadal’s legendary status.

Revealing that he was shocked by Nadal’s decision, Alcaraz said: “Well, to be honest, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. You know, I wasn’t affected at all before the match. I didn’t think anything about the Rafa news because I was so focused on the match, but I was obviously a little shocked when I saw it, because it was about an hour before the match. I had some time a while ago to accept it and forget about it.”
“This is really difficult, it’s really difficult news for everyone, and it’s even more difficult for me. He’s been my idol since I started playing tennis. I look up to him. I’m proud of him. I think he made me really want to play professional tennis.”Losing him will be difficult for us in some ways, so we’re going to enjoy it as much as possible when he plays.” added.
Nadal’s last tournament will be the Davis Cup final in Malaga this November, when Spain will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. It will be his first appearance since the Paris Olympics, but it will also be the end of a legendary career.
