(WKYT) — For today’s good question, Thomas asks: What is it? “
If you live in Fayette County, the “health” portion funds the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
If you look at the breakdown of Fayette County’s property taxes, there are several institutions that are funded with that money. State and county are very obvious. The same goes for schools, which is where a lot of the funding for Fayette County Public Schools comes from.
Extension services are provided to the UK extension program. They fund many things, including programs that teach people about gardening.
Soil and Water Conservation covers the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District, which promotes the protection and responsible management of natural resources.
The Health Department and Rectran also receive funding from those taxes.
Finally, depending on the taxing district you live in, these taxes pay for a portion of trash, street lighting, and street cleaning.
