George Spear, the school board’s attorney, says the introduction of daily Bible reading in Duluth public schools is illegal. At the September board meeting, Director CG Philobed proposed a resolution requiring daily Bible reading in schools.

An inquest will not be held in the death of former Duluth resident and prominent businessman Chauncey W. Griggs. Griggs was shot and killed while on a hunting trip in Canada with three other Duluth residents. Police said Griggs was hit by a shotgun blast when Homer Collins, president of Duluth Superior Transit and Homer Collins & Company, slipped into the hole.

Duluth City Council members have agreed to sell $3.5 million in bonds to loan James Miner the funds needed to build a Super One grocery store at 2130 Miller Trunk Highway. Miner owns 11 stores in northern Minnesota and plans to begin construction on a new store soon.
