Next week marks the end of summer and almost the last weekend of Omaha farmers markets. So Maggie Winton from VGG Group joins us. Thank you very much for your participation. Yes, thank you for coming. Wavell. yes. So, what happened at this year’s Omaha Farmers Market? It’s been a really great year. As you know, all of our vendors love to be out there every weekend. And it is really loved by the general public. So it’s always sad to see a season end. But you know, we’re planning to reopen in May, so time flies. right. And this is the last weekend. Do you think a lot of people will come and get what they want in the end?Yeah. Participation is constantly increasing significantly. first and last weekend. The weather looks like it’s going to be really nice this weekend, which always helps. So what makes farmers markets special? Probably an obvious question, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Personally, I love being able to go and interact with the people who produce, manufacture, and grow the food you’re purchasing. You’ll be able to chat with some of the vendors, get tips and tricks on how to prepare the produce you’re buying, and find out how many people will be showing up every week for 24 weeks to support local It’s a really great experience. . Yes, of course. And has there been anything like a fan favorite this year that everyone has really gotten together with? I mean, everyone’s always super popular. I always see people receiving bouquets of flowers. It’s such a big deal, everyone can see it. It’s very visual, but I know that I ate a lot of Carter & Rye hand pies and bought a lot of herbs and spices and basil from different produce vendors. That was kind of where I was this summer. Yeah, I think the fresh stuff like the lettuce I got was my peak. yes. Yeah. So this is the last weekend. You will be going to both the suburbs and the old markets. yes. Yes, I understand. The Old Market is held on Saturday and the Suburbs on Sunday. Understood. And you become part of the BGA group. What other events can people look forward to for the rest of the year? That’s why the Omaha Farmers Market is holding a holiday market on December 7th and 8th in Aksarben Village. It’s going to be really great. Be sure to check out our social media and website for information about it. We will publish the vendor list as we get closer. And the Holiday Lights Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary. This year at BGA. I’m very excited to work on this with the Mayor and other groups involved in these festivals. It’s crazy. Winter is almost here. I know it’s really crazy. It still feels like summer and we’re already making plans for New Year’s Eve. oh yeah. Have all vendors been selected for the holiday market? Yes, we have selected all vendors. We don’t make lists. A public notice has been sent to the vendor. Understood. But we’re finalizing all these details and should hopefully have a final list within the next few weeks.
