PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Agricultural Preservation Advisory Committee are reminding Agricultural Preservation District (APD) owners that the application period for the county’s Purchase and Retirement (PAR) Fund program is in November. We warned that the deadline is the 8th. , 2024. Established in 1992, the PAR program is part of Calvert County’s long-standing effort to protect agricultural land. Through this program, transferable development rights (TDRs) are purchased to protect farmland from development, retired, and permanently removed from the market.
BOCC recently approved a new purchase price of $6,000 per TDR in September 2023, replacing the previously approved price of $5,500. The county plans to offer to purchase development rights from willing sellers until funds are exhausted. Applications will be ranked according to a formula set forth in the Program Rules and Regulations, and offers to purchase TDRs will be made from eligible applicants, with applications received in rank order. There is no limit to the number of TDRs a private owner may sell. For more information on the application process, please visit www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/PAR.
The application deadline is November 8th at 4:30pm. Applications are available on the county website at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/PAR. Completed applications may be submitted by mail to the U.S. Department of Planning and Zoning. Submissions may be made to: Jennifer David, Rural Planner, 150 Main St., Prince Frederick, MD 20678, or by email to Jennifer.David@calvertcountymd.gov.
