CONCORD – Republican Gov. Chris Sununu issued a news release Tuesday praising his approval of transferring $26 million to the New Hampshire Retirement System as a Group II retirement system, but Democrats quickly called it He responded that he supported the bill that would make this a reality.
“New Hampshire has made a commitment to police officers, firefighters, and corrections officers to address retirement system benefit disparities and ensure that New Hampshire can attract new talent to these fields,” Sununu said. ” he said.

Mr. Sununu signed HB 1647 on July 19, 2024, regarding the calculation of Group II retirement benefits in retirement plans.
New Hampshire is ranked number one in the nation for public safety. Sununu said today’s one-time transfer of $26 million from the general fund will close that gap.
